As GBN’s commercial manager, Samantha Wilson is responsible for new business and looking after the company’s existing clients. Drawing on 18 years’ experience in the waste sector, it is her job to make sure customers are happy and that any problems they may have are quickly resolved.

“We have very good relationships with our customers and that is very important to me. It means a lot that they can ring me at any time”, she explains. “Customer service is at the centre of what we do.”

Ms Wilson previously worked for waste management firms AJ Bull and Kart A Way Waste Management, before being headhunted by GBN in 2008.

Working at the helm of the sales team, she has since been instrumental in helping GBN to grow sales and expand its business in line with the company’s growth through acquisition.

“I’m a real people person and love being able to help customers”, she comments. “Since I joined turnover has grown and I’ve been part of the team that has achieved that.”

Today, Ms Wilson looks after the majority of GBN’s blue-chip clients, working alongside business development manager Karen Smith. Her role is very varied and can involve anything from dealing with issues and queries to visiting customer sites, carrying out waste audits and giving tips on waste segregation.

She says: “My experience in the industry allows me to think outside of the box and give our customers advice. For example, if a client wants to set up a waste compound, I can give them an example of one I’ve done and what I recommend. You only get that with experience.”

When asked what she loves about her job, Ms Wilson points to the varied nature of the role and to the working environment at GBN.

“GBN are such a fantastic company to work for”, she comments. “We are all good friends and everything is conducted at a personal level right up to the managing director. I think that is reflected in the high level of service we deliver.”
